Jungheinrich AG relies on HPC expertise
MEGWARE has been equipping numerous research institutes and universities with the most powerful HPC systems for many years. With Jungheinrich AG, one of the world's leading intralogistics companies, MEGWARE has now implemented another large installation for a well-known industrial customer.
The HCI (Hyper Converged Infrastructure) system is now supporting Jungheinrich AG with new compute power for the private cloud, an important component in the hybrid cloud strategy of Jungheinrich. The project started in Hamburg with a proof of concept. It consisted of a test cluster with 6 compute nodes for short-term rental which ensured a development and test phase without any fixed expectations regarding technology and result. All requirements on geo-redundancy and extreme I / O performance, especially for database systems, could be met.
The successful proof of concept convinced Jungheinrich to build the production environment based on MEGWARE. The required complex infrastructure was planned and implemented customized in collaboration with Jungheinrich AG. MEGWARE supplied for the Jungheinrich Private Cloud three geo-redundant clusters with 48 compute nodes and a complete redundant 100 GBit network for the connection to the software-defined group network. Based on this framework, the HCI VMWare VSAN cluster was installed with 2,304 Intel Cores (Xeon Platinum 8168) and 72 Terabyte RAM. The storage comprises a total of 7.68 petabytes of flash-based memory with several million I/O per second in order to keep sufficient reserve available even for the most extreme requirements. The VMWare VSAN cluster is scalable linearly and across technologies.
All in all, a sustainable platform with a high degree of automation, stability as well as predictability could be implemented.
